Street Cat Designs
Tell us a bit about what you do and how long you have been in business Street Cat Designs has been in business for 5 years. My work is in 10 stores in the lower mainland and Kelowna.
What is one thing you think people should know about you and/or your company? My work is completely original, and each piece is over 95% hand made. The only premade items I use are clasps and chains. I make my own earwires, chandelier and pendants, I knit and crochet sterling silver and 14K gold filled wire. My techniques are “green”, no casting, no soldering, no chemicals. My pieces are made to last using the highest quality materials. I prefer to make classic pieces with a nod to trend, so you will find your Street Cat Design piece will be relevant from season to season, year after year.
Why Vancouver? What excites you about Vancouver’s market scene? Why Vancouver? Because it’s the most beautiful city in the world. The mountains, the ocean, the weather, the diverse cultures and the sophisticated tastes of the people who live here are all inspiration to me.
The Home & Design Show! What excites you about this? Why take part? I was lucky enough to have taken part in the Home and Design Show last October and am honored to have been chosen again. I love the show’s energy and am proud to represent Portobello West.
Name one “must-have” item for this season from your line or one of your local favourites One of my signature pieces would be my crocheted medallion earrings. They are available in an array of sizes, in both sterling silver and 14K gold fill, with and without gemstones or swarovski Crystals. They can be worn as easily with blue jeans and a cozy sweater as with a lovely cocktail dress.
Your favourite Vancouver designer? Vancouver has so many amazing designers. Some of my favourites are Quench Jewelry, who’s work is so WestCoast, Shelley Klassen for Blushing Boutique’s beautifully feminine dresses, John Fluevog’s shoes are amazing, Misty Greer’s Trunk Show line has so many wonderful pieces and I love her aesthetic, and I absolutely covet my Bronsino Paris Tote.
What do you think is the most important reason to shop local? Shopping local means that our designers and manufacturers can stay in Vancouver and produce world class wares, support themselves, and in turn other businesses. It means the integrity of our designers and local businesses will remain.
