African Fair Trade Society

Tell us a bit about what you do and how long you have been in business.

We are a non-profit organization that sells 100% pure organic products
and body lotion/cream. We have been in business for 7 years.

What is one thing you think people should know about you and/or
your company?

That shea butter is the skin’s best friend and that we are supporting
women and children in west Africa.

Why Vancouver? What excites you about Vancouver’s market scene?

Vancouver is a very multicultural city and is very green. People here are very interested in fair trade products and are very welcoming.

You recently participated in The Home & Design Show, why take part?

We met many people with different backgrounds so it’s a good place to
promote our product.

Where do you find inspiration for your line? Where have you
found inspiration in the past?

When we see that women in West Africa are having the opportunity to go
to work and to see that the kids are able to learn at a good school.

Name one “must-have” item for this season from your line or one of your local favourites.

The 100% pure organic Shea butter is really popular.

Your favorite Vancouver designer?

The designer name is Matt and his company is Emdoubleyu Design.

What do you think is the most important reason to shop local?

Because when you shop local you’re already supporting the local community and the local artist and you already know who you’re buying it from.

Name a single person, business or organization that you think
is making a difference for our local market/community.

Portobello West and also another African Fair Trade Society.

Your next move? Tell us about what you’re working on next.

We are planning to expand the company to the eastern side of Canada.
